SERVE

As a community that seeks to not only proclaim, but also embody, the story of Jesus, hospitality and mission are at the core of our congregation's values. At Christ Church Davis we believe that we are active participants in the work of restoring and renewing the world, and that we take part in this work in both big and seemingly small ways. Our community seeks to be present in the daily needs of our sisters and brothers in the church, the broader Davis community, and through giving and service around the world.

Below are a few ways that you can serve at Christ Church. We hope you partner with us as we continue to work out what it looks like to be a faith community here in Davis!

SETUP & TEARDOWN FOR OUR WEEKLY WORSHIP SERVICE

As a small but growing congregation, we rely on volunteers to help prepare for and clean up after every service. Helpers typically commit about 45 minutes before or after the service, and most folks help out once or twice a month, depending on their availability.

NURSERY & CHRIST CHURCH KIDS

Participate in the care and education of Christ Church’s little ones during the service. Send a message to our Children’s Ministry Coordination, Shelly Dirksen (shellydirksen[at]hotmail[dot]com), to learn more about different ways to help.

MEALS FOR FRIDAY COMMUNION IN THE PARK

Every Friday Christ Church participates in a Communion in the Park service for area homeless at Central Park in downtown Davis. Before communion, the folks gathered together share a meal. Christ Church is responsible for providing the main dish at lunch every week. One way to help out is by providing the main meal for one of the Friday gatherings. We have shared meal calendar where you can volunteer to bring the main dish to lunch for a Friday service.

To sign up, go to Carecalendar.org, and insert Calendar ID: 177438 and Security Code: 4893.

A couple notes:

  • Please make sure you bring a filling meal. We want to honor our sisters and brothers who come to Communion in the Park, and a great way of doing that is by thoughtfully preparing a meal for them. There are  meals ideas listed under the "Friday Communion in the Park" tab on the calendar.

  • You are welcome (and encouraged!) to stay for lunch and communion with our friends who gather at the park.

  • This is a great way for kids to engage with issues of social justice. Going to Communion in the Park could be a meaningful activity to share as a family, especially during the summer when school is not in session.

WALKING WITH FAMILIES AND INDIVIDUALS IN OUR CONGREGATION

One of the most practical and tangible ways to extend love and support to members of our congregation in periods of need or transition is by providing them with meals. Bring folks meals is one way to help in a challenging season. Many of the families in our congregation have recently been blessed with little ones, and there are more on the way!
